Our commitment
Rising Youth is built so a student in Barmer with a 2G connection has the same access to the platform as a student in Jaipur with broadband. We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA as our minimum bar, and we test on real Android devices (not just emulators).
What we have done
- Keyboard navigation — every interactive element is reachable with Tab/Shift-Tab and activatable with Enter or Space.
- Skip-to-content link is the first focusable element on every page.
- Visible focus outlines on all buttons, links, and form fields.
- Semantic markup — headings in order, landmarks (header / main / nav / footer), labels associated with inputs.
- Colour contrast — body text meets WCAG AA contrast on the saffron and sky-blue palette; semantic colours use additional icons (not colour alone) to communicate state.
- Bilingual — UI strings switch between English and Hindi via the EN ⇄ हि toggle in the header. The
langattribute on<html>updates accordingly. - Mobile-first — layouts collapse cleanly to single-column at narrow widths; minimum 44 px touch targets.
- PWA / offline-friendly — last-viewed pages and downloaded PDFs work without an active connection.
Known limitations
- Some embedded YouTube videos rely on YouTube's player accessibility — captions depend on the original creator.
- The mock-test interface uses time pressure that may be challenging for students who need extra time. A "needs extra time" preference is on the roadmap; in the interim, contact support and we can extend test windows individually.
- Hindi screen-reader experience varies by device. We test with TalkBack on Android (English + Hindi locales) and aim to expand coverage.
Compatible technologies
- Browsers: latest Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge — and Android Chrome from version 90 upward.
- Screen readers: NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack.
- Assistive features: browser zoom up to 200%, OS-level large text, high-contrast mode.
